First things first

We just got back from an Alaskan cruise with my family
and I can't wait to share some pictures with you!

But first....I just have to get this Jon & Kate stuff off my chest.

You know that I was a devoted fan.
I loved watching them manage the day to day
struggles of having 8 kids....
so how in the world did things go so wrong in
the past 6 months?

Suddenly they are in this million dollar home
and it is no longer about their ordinary lives....

This pic from a few months ago
basically sums it up for me....
Jon & Kate leaving Mr. Chow's in Hollywood looking
like pissed off celebrities????

This is when I realized that the Jon & Kate I knew
were gone forever.

A few weeks ago I decided that I was done with the show.

I deleted all the episodes I had recorded and told
my DVR to quit recording new episodes.

I had been annoyed with the whole thing for a few weeks
but one thing put me over the edge.

Brian and I watched a special on the Obamas...
(I adore Michelle Obama)

Anyway, I was struck by two things.
As they talked about their girls, it was just so evident
that they truly enjoy their children.
And secondly, I was struck by the way they
are protecting their children from the media.
They refused to let them speak on camera.

I was struck by the wisdom of this attitude.

And next I thought about the Gosselin kids.

I know you really can't compare the two situations because
one is a regular family and the other is a public figure.

But I just was overwhelmed by the Obama's desire
to shield and protect their children.

In that moment I decided I was done with Jon & Kate.

I do have to admit, though....

Yes, I did tune in on Monday night....I just had to know.
I really can't believe they are getting a divorce.
I could go on and on about each of them.

But the thing that stands out the most to me is just the transformation.
They were two ordinary people that have
been transformed by....what?
The media? Fame? Fortune?

We expect that money and fame will corrupt celebrity relationships...
but I just didn't think that it would happen to
two regular, church-going people.

It was painful to watch Monday night's episode.
In my opinion, the show just needs to stop immediately.
I am begging you, TLC, to not film this family
while they go through a gut-wrenching divorce.

And I am begging you, Jon & Kate, to please not
put your family through that.

But this is when the true horror sets in.
How can they quit?
The show that "created" them, and possibly
destroyed them, has become their livelihood.

I've been thinking of you as I watch their marriage dissolve before my very eyes. By Tuesday I decided that by the very virtue of my watching I was guilty of aiding and abetting the bad behavior. I declared that I was done with reality TV . . . but then I decided not to be rash. It's just J and K.

I have to admit even I skimmed through the show with the "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!" The main thing I was struck by was how often the two of them said that the kids come first. I think most people who get married in a church are told at some point that the kids can never come first. Your marriage and the union between the two of you and God always has to be the foundation, and your love for your kids is a natural overflowing of that love. My parents always put us first and now they struggle with their own identities now that we're independent. (Well, some of us.)

Yes, I did the same thing. Totally canceled the show in my DVR, and I just am SO SAD about the whole situation.
