I'm just going to admit it.
A two-year old has got me freaked out.
I mean, I love kids...young, old, I just love 'em.
And in general I love two year olds.
I mean, I love their little irrational, illogical, unpredictable selves.
And maybe it's because I just relate.
Because the truth is, sometimes I too feel like yelling "NO!" when
asked to do something that I don't want to.
And sometimes I too just feel like laying on the floor and crying
when things don't go my way.
And I too get crabby when I am hungry, tired or frustrated.
So in a way, I get where these little people are coming from.
But tomorrow morning I have a final exam in which I will
come face to face with a formidable opponent: yes, a two year old.
And this little person has got me scared.
Because tomorrow I need this little irrational being to be cooperative!
I have to get a health history from his dad and then do a head-to-toe
physical exam on him.
My professor will be watching from behind a two-way mirror.
But the really horrible part is that they videotape the whole thing
and then force us to watch ourselves...how painful is that??
While I slept last night two-year olds ran through my head all night long.
I've got my bag of bribes, my trusty notecard and a mind whirling
with assessment skills...
But will it be enough to outwit a two year old?

It's okay...just bribe the little guy with candy...hold a few M&Ms in your hand and just show them to him...don't say anything so they professors won't hear. Kids will do ANYTHING for candy...at least Jack will. That's how I get him to behave for me when we're out in public and he starts acting up...bribery is an awesome thing!!

My experience with two-year-olds has unfortunately not left me more, well, uh, experienced.
Anyways, I thought I could share one of the things I like about our pediatrician: he talks to my kids. He addresses me also for the adult stuff, but my girls respond amazingly well when they are treated like real people. He begins slowly, not racing in with his agenda. He has a funny animal on his stethoscope that eases the conversations, but most of all, he shows them a great deal of respect.
Good luck!

How did it go???
Ooh, can't wait to hear! I'm sure you did awesomely:)
Wish you guys lived closer...I would have let you practice on my trio! Or maybe its best that you didn't...they might have freaked you WAY out (they tend to go nutso when they see medical personel!)
