Adventures

It was a week of firsts!

On Wednesday I did an interview with this lady
for Univision.
It was on a local nightly news show called
Noticias Noreste
in a segment called "En la comunidad."

I'm pretty sure I have never been that nervous in my life!
I didn't tell anyone that I was doing it,
because I was honestly too nervous to even talk about it.

The purpose of the segment was to encourage families
to take their child to the emergency room
if they are injured or sick.

The second purpose was to spread the word that
the hospitals in Washington State including Seattle Children's
treat all children regardless of their immigration status
and the status of their parents,
and that this status is never reported.

The third goal was to address the fact that some
parents are afraid to take their child to the ER for an injury
for fear they will be accused of physical abuse.
So we talked about the fact
that this is not something that is
taken lightly, but it is a thorough and very careful process,
which includes many medical tests and consultations
with experts.

And that is why I agreed to do the interview.
Because these topics are near and dear to my heart
and even though my Spanish isn't perfect,
my hope is that these messages were clear!

And yesterday I rode this water taxi to a sweet sunny afternoon
happy hour in West Seattle.
It is actually part of the public transportation
system...would this
not be the best commute ever??

Wow Erin! That's awesome about the interview! I was hoping you'd have a link so we could see it somewhere... And a water taxi? Can you even imagine a commute like that in North Texas??
